Ursula is often remembered as being the first and the best Bond girl, after her captivating appearance as Honey Ryder in "Dr. No" (1963), despite the fact that her voice had to be dubbed because of her strong German/Swiss accent. Born in Switzerland to a German diplomat father and a Swiss mother, she is one of five children. At the age of 17 the physically mature Andress ran off to Italy with an older Italian actor, and later did small parts in Italian films before Paramount Studios, in her words, "chased her all around Italy and tested her in Rome". When she was brought to Hollywood, the studio had her under wraps and groomed her for stardom, although it wouldn't be until the Bond film that she would receive international recognition. In the mid-fifties, Ursula had close relationships with Marlon Brando and James Dean, and became involved with married actor John Derek. Free to wed in 1957, the marriage lasted nine years and they remained friends until his death in 1998. She found herself cast opposite leading men such as Elvis Presley in "Fun In Acapulco" (1963), Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in "Four For Texas" (also 1963), Sammy Davis Jr. in "Nightmare In The Sun" (1964), George Peppard in "The Blue Max (1966) and Peter Sellers in "What's New Pussycat?"
