Yet another brave man lays down his life. The psecs terrorist-appeasement policies claim yet another victim. Now Madam can reach into the nations coffers and throw a little bit of money at the families of the heroes, and get on with their day, doing more chai-paani-biskoot with the terrorists and their sympathizers. When an entire nation is cynical of the response by the state machinery against terrorists, its the presence of such brave officers who provide a glimmer of hope. May his soul rest in peace and may his valiant act not go in vain. The city's befitting answer to crime and hardened criminals, Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, succumbed on Friday evening to injuries sustained in the forenoon while battling terrorists who perpetrated serial blasts in the Capital exactly a week ago. His blazing gun has fallen silent. With seven gallantry awards and 75 encounters under his belt, Sharma eventually made the supreme sacrifice fighting terrorists who thought they could strike with impunity and get away with it. Hit by three bullets in his abdomen, Sharma succumbed at the Holy Family Hospital around 7 pm. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condoled the death and said he had shown exceptional courage and was an inspiration for the security forces. Joining the force as a sub-inspector in mid-1980s, Sharma soon proved himself to be an able lieutenant to ACP Rajbir Singh, another encounter specialist who also fell to the bullets of his enemy this March. Sharma, 41, a resident of Om Satyam Apartment in Rohini's Sector 4, who led the police team against the terrorists in Jamia Nagar, was operated upon at the Holy Family Hospital. The officer had received firearm injuries on his upper abdomen, upper arm, left shoulder and right hip. Sharma is survived by his wife and two children. "The strong urge of eradicating the filth of terrorists and terrorism was always the driving force for Sharma. He is indeed our true hero," said Delhi Police commissioner YS Dadwal. In encounter operations in Jammu & Kashmir and the February encounter with a Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammad militant, Sharma had emerged as a fighter and the hero during his stint as an inspector in the Special Cell of Delhi Police. He also received 150 awards, including recommendations and appreciation from different agencies other than the Delhi Police award several times for his exemplary display of professionalism. Rajbir Singh's heir in countering terrorism, Sharma led the party that was involved in several rounds of firing on Friday with the desperate terrorists. The gunshots were hardly any deterrent for the khaki-clad men, who bravely fought back for over an hour. Though the team headed by Sharma managed to neutralise two militants and apprehend another, it didn't feel exalted after the operation, with its leader hanging from life with a thread and, finally, falling. "We have lost our best man," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh. Head Constable Balwant Singh Rana, who was also injured in the operation, is recuperating at the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Rana, who reportedly received a bullet injury in his right hand, underwent a successful surgery and is said to be out of danger. by
